ABOUT

MISSION
The Dive Musical Incubator is a not-for-profit dedicated to supporting musical theatre writers of marginalized identities by fostering their work from inception. Through writers’ groups, developmental readings, dramaturgical support, and resources aimed at furthering artists’ professional careers in the creation of new musical theatre, The Dive creates a space and community where marginalized writers can create bold, new, and challenging works.
OUR STORY
THE DIVE (formerly UNTITLED Musical Project) began as a weekly writers group for musical theatre writers of marginalized identities who sought an understanding place where we didn’t have to explain our identity. A space where we could minimize the time explaining how our lived experiences shaped our work, and focus on craft by providing time to share the freshest of materials followed by moderated constructive feedback. The structure wasn’t novel, but the space was invaluable. We had gathered award-winning career writers who wanted a place to work and complete their pieces.
As the meetings went on, we began to receive requests for readings and concerts — support for additional developmental steps that would allow a writer to look at their piece critically. And so, the organization was born. In addition to the Writers Group that launched this organization, we are also proud to offer readings, concerts, and dramaturgical support all in service of helping a writer complete their script for future opportunities.
Laptops are riddled with unfinished and unheard scripts from writers of marginalized communities who need support. THE DIVE exists to help writers generate complete drafts, hear them aloud, and prepare them for future development. Much like our writers' group, we strive to create a space where writers can solely focus on their artistry and create solid, nuanced pieces of musical theatre.
